Yezi Lin was born in China and has been working with film since 2020. In 2022, she moved to the Netherlands and began creating her own films as the primary medium for developing her artistic practice. Simultaneously, she pursued acting and collaborated with other directors as part of her exploration of film.
Through film, acting, installation, sound and photography, Yezi Lin’s practice traces the intersection of identity and memory, blurring the lines between reality and fantasy. Social experience is dissected through a symbolic language that occurs in splitting versions of the self. Drawing from research on colonial histories, folktales and autobiography, she uses fiction and narrative devices to show the rupture between imagination and lived experience. The combination of a child-like playfulness spins alongside a more historical reckoning with the conditions of immigrants' native cultural identity.
